Sugata Duygu Akartuna

Yoga represents a means and a goal that ignites my search for the Self and leads me to a wonderland full of miracles, a fulfilling life based on values; it is a means to progress on the path, and the goal when I use it in the sense of ‘unity’ (yuj).

Biography

Dr. Sugata Duygu Akartuna is a yoga teacher, writer, and psychospiritual researcher who approaches yoga not merely as a physical discipline but as a path of meaning, surrender, and compassionate presence. Since being diagnosed with systemic sclerosis in 2024, she has come to meet her āsana practice each day with a “beginner’s mind,” allowing her body to become both a site of vulnerability and profound transformation. Her PhD focused on a psychospiritual intervention based on the Bhagavad Gītā and Yin Yoga, bridging Eastern wisdom with contemporary psychology to create a healing model rooted in both embodiment and insight. She studied Indian philosophy and positive psychology at Amrita University in India, and continued her Sanskrit and Yoga Sūtra studies in Germany under Dr. Ruppel A.M. Sugata is the author of Karma and Saturn: The Lord of Karma, a book weaving Vedānta and Vedic astrology into a soulful journey of karmic growth and spiritual responsibility. She teaches haṭha yoga, yin yoga, meditation, yoga theory, and Indian philosophy, offering students a practice that blends the mystical with the practical: ancient yet alive, intellectual yet embodied.
