Dr. Sugata Duygu Akartuna
Sugata Duygu Akartuna’s journey with yoga began in 2003, when she received a yoga set as a gift from her mother. What started as a simple curiosity gradually deepened through courses and trainings across different countries, where she studied with teachers from diverse yogic traditions.
In 2014, after a serious neck injury caused by an accident, she paused her āsana practice and turned to the ashram of her Guru, Amma, in Amritapuri. That period became not just a pause, but a transformative journey of healing and inner awakening.
In 2017, she completed her Master’s degree in Indian Philosophy and Positive Psychology at Amrita University, recognized as India’s leading private university. During the same period, she was a visiting researcher at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she deepened her studies in Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras and Sanskrit. She later earned her doctorate in Spiritual and Cultural Studies at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
Her academic work focuses on an innovative psychospiritual intervention model that integrates the four yogic paths of the Bhagavad Gītā, Yin Yoga, and contemporary psychology. This approach was implemented in Türkiye and showed promising outcomes in reducing anxiety, enhancing resilience, and fostering meaning in life. Her research has been published in leading international academic journals, bringing together philosophical wisdom and modern psychology.
Today, Dr. Sugata Duygu Akartuna continues her path as a researcher, writer, and lecturer at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, dedicated to bridging academia and spiritual wisdom. Alongside her research and writing, she teaches Yin Yoga, haṭha yoga, meditation, and yoga philosophy, keeping the sharing of wisdom—both scholarly and experiential—at the heart of her work.
