According to Ayurveda, a holistic medical and lifestyle system with a 5,000-year history, Kapha represents the qualities of heaviness, stability, structure, slowness, and “holding/accumulation” in the body. During winter—especially when humidity increases and the season approaches its end—Kapha qualities can become more pronounced. This may show up as a feeling of heaviness, lethargy, bloating/edema, fatigue, depressive moods, or difficulty regaining energy.
When in balance, Kapha manifests as resilience, calmness, a strong immune system, and stability. When out of balance, it may present as heaviness, slowness, lethargy or lack of motivation, bloating/edema, excess mucus or sinus congestion, and mental fog.
This practice is designed to balance the rising Kapha qualities of the winter season through a more invigorating, warming, and circulation-supporting structure. The tempo and intensity of transitions are adjusted to awaken the body; the aim is not performance, but to move toward a lighter and more vibrant sense of balance.
